Connecting climate, environment, and longevity to support healthier lives across generations.
Climate change is increasingly shaping the conditions in which people age, while environmental factors such as air quality, climate stability, ecosystems, food systems, and urban design are fundamental determinants of healthy longevity. As societies confront accelerating environmental change, there is growing recognition that human health and environmental health are deeply interconnected. However, ageing populations and longevity considerations remain underrepresented in climate, sustainability, and environmental policy and planning.
IFA connects healthy longevity with planetary health and climate action, supporting the development of sustainable and resilient societies that enable longer, healthier lives for all generations, fostering new cross-sector collaboration by linking ageing and planetary health agendas.
IFA brings together leaders across public health, environmental science, urban planning, climate policy, and ageing to examine how environmental systems—including air quality, green infrastructure, built environments, food systems, and climate adaptation—influence health across the life course. Additionally, IFA’s work explores how cities, infrastructure, and communities can be designed to promote active ageing, social participation, and wellbeing while advancing environmental sustainability.
As this area grows in importance, the IFA is expanding its work through related initiatives, partnerships, and global advocacy, with further activity under development.
