Advancing adult immunisation for healthier ageing worldwide.
When adult immunisation emerged as a critical yet under-prioritised pillar of healthy ageing, the IFA partnered with leading experts and regional stakeholders to identify key gaps and barriers. Through expert roundtables and regional consultations, the IFA produced evidence-based reports and context-specific policy recommendations, and established Vaccines4Life (V4L) as a global knowledge hub, strengthening advocacy and accelerating action worldwide.
IFA’s work in adult immunisation, through Vaccines4Life (V4L), is a program of work that mobilizes and translates evidence into knowledge to inform and shape policies that improve population health, strengthen health systems, and support sustainable economies. Guided by the three pillars of the Immunisation for All Ages (IFAA) initiative – prevention, access, and equity – V4L advances a vision in which older people can age in good health, with their right to safe and appropriate vaccines protected and respected. Its overarching objective is to improve adult vaccination rates globally, thereby improving healthy ageing and longevity.
V4L aims to advance immunisation as a cornerstone of prevention, functional ability, and well-being in older age by mobilizing knowledge, aligning with global agendas, and serving as a central platform for connection, collaboration, and action on the most urgent issues in adult vaccination. Since its establishment, the V4L programme has supported the implementation of the WHO’s Immunisation Agenda 2030, bridged healthy ageing and immunisation agendas, and engaged governments and advisory bodies to promote a life-course approach to immunisation, including the systematic inclusion of older adults in immunisation policies and programmes.
Through six country reports, this project examines gaps in national immunization policies and identifies key opportunities to strengthen the prioritization, access, and delivery of adult influenza vaccination.
