IFA at the 79th World Health Assembly

May 18 @ 8:00 am - May 23 @ 5:00 pm

At WHA79, IFA is co-hosting a series of high-level side events that reflect a shared priority: reframing ageing as a lifelong, cross-sector investment and embedding healthy longevity into health systems, financing, and policy frameworks.

Investing in Healthy Ageing – A Foundation for Population Health and Well-being

Co-hosts: France, Japan, Thailand, Republic of Korea, HelpAge International, International Federation on Ageing
Time: Monday, 18 May, 13:00
Location: Room XI, Palais des Nations

This event aims to identify practical country examples of investing in integrated care, long-term care and age-friendly environments, understand how WHO norms and standards can accelerate implementation and scale, recognize the economic, health and social returns of investing in healthy ageing, strengthen cross-country learning and multisectoral collaboration, and reinforce commitments for the second half of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing.

Healthy Longevity as a Whole-of-Society Life-Course Investment Strategy

Co-hosts: Qatar, Finland, Japan, World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA), World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), International Federation on Ageing (IFA)
Time: Tuesday, 19 May, 13:00
Location: Salle XVI, Palais des Nations

Population ageing and rising NCD prevalence represent a significant and growing global burden. Despite substantial policy activity, responses often remain fragmented across sectors and disease silos. There is a critical need for integrated life course frameworks that address determinants of health, strengthen prevention ecosystems, support primary healthcare as an enabler, and align governance and financing structures. This side event responds to that unmet need by advancing healthy longevity as a cross-government investment model.

Immunizing Across the Life Course: Supporting Healthy Ageing, NCD Management, and System Resilience

Co-hosts: International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA), Global Allergy & Airways Patient Platform (GAAPP), International Federation on Ageing (IFA)
Time: Friday, 22 May, 13:00
Location: Salle B, WHO Headquarters

The event will explore how life-course immunization can strengthen PHC-led models designed to meet the needs of ageing populations and people living with NCDs. The discussion will highlight how life-course immunization can support healthier ageing, stable NCD management, and improved system efficiency at a time of tightening fiscal space and rising service demand.

IFA welcomes collaboration with governments, civil society, academia, and private sector partners to advance shared priorities on healthy ageing and longevity. To connect with the IFA team during WHA79 or explore partnership opportunities, please contact:
