International Day of Older Persons: Mobilizing Multisectoral Action for Longevity to 2030 and Beyond

The world has entered an age of longevity. As people live longer and populations age, the systems that shape our lives must evolve to keep pace.

Population ageing is not solely a health or social issue. It has implications across employment, social protection, infrastructure, technology, financing, health and care — making it a defining development issue.

Looking to 2030 and beyond

As the world enters the second half of the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030), 2026 is an important moment to reflect on progress, identify gaps and accelerate action — while considering what needs to continue beyond 2030.

To mark the International Day of Older Persons 2026, IFA will convene a global virtual dialogue bringing together leaders across sectors to explore how collective action can accelerate progress towards 2030 and help shape the agenda on ageing and longevity beyond 2030.

The conversation will ask:

What has meaningfully changed during the first half of the Decade?

Where are systems still failing to keep pace with longer lives?

What needs to be different by 2030 — and what needs to be carried beyond 2030?
