Workshop on Engaging in the WHO Global Standards for Long-term Care Consultation

Help shape the future of long-term care!

On 23 September 2026, the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) hosted a virtual workshop to support its network and members in understanding the World Health Organization’s (WHO) draft Global Standards for Long-Term Care and engaging meaningfully in the global public consultation.

The workshop brought together stakeholders to explore how the proposed standards can contribute to more accessible, equitable, person-centred and high-quality long-term care systems around the world.

The session focused on:

  • Exploring the key domains and recommendations in the draft standards

  • Engaging in dialogue with WHO technical experts

  • Sharing initial feedback on the proposed standards

  • Discussing practical approaches to consulting older persons, caregivers, providers, workforce representatives and communities

  • Supporting organisations in planning consultations within their own networks

  • Identifying opportunities to bring diverse perspectives into the WHO consultation

Meaningful stakeholder engagement remains essential to ensuring the final standards reflect lived experience, implementation realities and the diverse contexts in which long-term care is delivered.
