Dr. Jane Barratt, Secretary General of the International Federation on Ageing, has been announced as the Civil Society representative of Vaccine Strategy for the ACT-Accelerator Vaccine Pillar (COVAX), which aims to accelerate the development and access to quality, and affordable COVID19 diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines.

“Changing the Conversation on Adult Influenza Vaccination” presents the findings of a ten country environmental scan of public health messages pertaining to influenza vaccination from governmental, and patient and advocacy organizations.

In the following joint statement, the World Coalition on Adult Vaccination calls on increased investment in educating and encouraging older adults and those with chronic diseases to be vaccinated against influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia.

“Older adults make significant social and economic contributions in Canada,” says Dr. Jane Barratt, Secretary General of the International Federation on Ageing (IFA). “They’re the glue that holds the fabric of this country together. They’re resilient. They have ambition and commitment. And yet, the system has failed to address the diversity, strength, and rights of our older population. The rights of older adults are human rights.”

The International Federation on Ageing (IFA) is excited to launch a consensus statement from the Copenhagen Summit on cognitive reserve. Held in October 2019 in partnership with DaneAge, the Summit brought together over 75 delegates from 22 countries, comprising of public health policy makers, international organizations focused on ageing and brain health, academia and policy advocacy experts.

Aligned with the Decade of Healthy Ageing 2020-2030, the International Federation on Ageing calls for Member States to prioritize the legal rights of older people to live long and healthy lives within the four action areas: ageism, integrated primary care, long term care and age-friendly cities and communities.
