Egale Canada and the International Federation on Ageing Announce New Collaboration

In recognition of the unique experiences of LGBTQI [1] seniors as a priority population in Canada, Egale Canada and IFA are pleased to announce their formal collaboration.  In preparation for the IFA’s 14th Global Conference on Ageing, Egale is supporting the IFA through LGBTQI inclusion training for its staff, and helping to develop a more inclusive conference space for attendees.  For more information about the training programs, please contact the Seniors Program Officer at Egale Canada.

About Egale Canada

Egale Canada works to improve the lives of LGBTQI2S [2] people in Canada and to enhance the global response to LGBTQI2S issues.  Egale will achieve this by informing public policy, inspiring cultural change, and promoting human rights and inclusion through research, education and community engagement.  Egale also works to provide the LGBTQI2S community in Canada with access to essential services including counseling through Egale Youth OUTreach and crisis as well as transitional housing through the Egale Centre.  Egale’s vision is a Canada, and ultimately a world, without homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and all other forms of oppression so that every person can achieve their full potential, free from hatred and bias.

[1] The acronym ‘LGBTQI’ is used here to reference all people with diverse gender identities and experiences of attraction (sexual orientation), including those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, queer or questioning. 

[2] As Egale is situated on Indigenous land, the official acronym LGBTQI2S includes Two-Spirit, an English umbrella term used by some Indigenous People rather than, or into addition to, identifying at LGBTQ. This term affirms the interrelatedness of all aspects of identity- including gender, sexuality, community, culture and spirituality.
