The IFA began operations in 1973, at a time when organizations around the world were only beginning to understand population ageing trends. AARP was instrumental in founding the IFA, and the two organizations have enjoyed a strong relationship ever since.
The IFA has a long established and wide-ranging network of member organizations around the world. The network extends to over 75 countries covering every region. Together these organizations represent over 80 million older people.
Support for older people is becoming an increasing priority issue in the developing world and this will only continue as the proportion of older people increases in the future. Globally, the number of persons aged 60 and above is expected to more than double by 2015 and more than triple by 2100 (3.2 billion). Sixty-six percent (66%) of the increase will occur in Asia, 13% in Africa and 11% in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The International Federation on Ageing (IFA) successfully concluded its 16th Global Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, focusing on the theme of “Challenge, Transformation, Change.” The conference brought together experts, policymakers, researchers, and advocates from around the world to address critical issues related to ageing populations. –
The conference facilitated cross-cultural dialogue and the sharing of best practices in addressing the challenges and opportunities associated with population ageing. Attendees from over 60 countries participated in concurrent sessions, symposiums, and master classes, covering topics such as digital technologies, older women, function improvement, immunization, and age-friendly environments. –
The IFA expressed gratitude to its sponsors, including Pfizer, Moderna, Seqirus, Cochlear, and others, for their support in improving the lives of older adults and advancing research, innovation, and healthcare solutions for ageing populations. These sponsors played a vital role in the conference’s success. –
The event concluded with a Gala Dinner that celebrated collective achievements and shared goals in promoting healthy ageing and sustainable communities. Participants enjoyed cultural performances reflecting the vibrant spirit of Thailand, fostering a sense of community and recommitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of older adults worldwide.
